In a significant development for Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, Prof. Shaykh-Lukman Alade Jimoh has been appointed as the substantive Vice Chancellor. The appointment, which followed the approval of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, came after a rigorous screening exercise by the university’s governing council where Prof. Shaykh-Lukman emerged as the top candidate.
Prof. Shaykh-Lukman, who has been serving as the Acting Vice Chancellor, previously held the position of Deputy Vice Chancellor at KWASU from 2020 to 2022. He brings a wealth of experience as both an administrator and a scholar, making him a highly recommended choice for the role. At 60 years old, his extensive academic career includes numerous accolades, such as Best Graduating Student of the Department of Religions (University of Ilorin) in 1988, a University Undergraduate Scholarship Award (1987/1988), and recognition as a University Scholar in 1987/1988.
In addition to his academic achievements, Prof. Shaykh-Lukman is a Fellow and member of several professional bodies, including the Chartered Institute of Public Advocacy and Management and the Council of Experts for the International Centre on Contemporary Research in Islamic Sciences (United Kingdom). He hails from Igbaja in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
In related news, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has also approved the transformation of the Kwara State College of Education in Ilorin into the University of Education, citing logistical advantages and ease of takeoff as key reasons for the decision. The government plans to continue its efforts to enhance the viability of the state’s other colleges of education in line with current sector realities.
This decision follows closely on the heels of the governor’s assent to the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (Establishment) and Kwara State University of Education (Establishment) Bills. The signing of these bills, which took place at Government House in Ilorin, marked the official establishment of both a teaching hospital and the university of education. The event was attended by prominent figures including House of Assembly Speaker Engr. Yakubu Danladi Salihu, Majority Leader Hon. Oba AbdulKadir Magaji, Clerk of the House AbdulKareem Ahmed, and Abdulrazaq Jiddah, a member of the Committee on the Establishment of Kwara State University of Education/Special Adviser (Special Duties).
