Dr. Jamila Mohammed Dahiru, Bauchi State Commissioner of Education, highlighted the significance of inclusive data at the 2024 World Population Day commemoration in Bauchi.

Speaking at the Abubakar Umar Secretariat, she noted that inclusive data goes beyond mere numbers, representing the diverse experiences and needs of every individual in the population.

“Accurate and comprehensive data enables informed decisions, ensuring equitable access to vital services such as education, health, power, and water, fostering a resilient society,” Dr. Dahiru stated. She emphasized the day as a reminder of the complex relationship between population dynamics and sustainable development.

Dr. Dahiru acknowledged that population growth presents both opportunities and challenges, potentially leading to innovation and economic growth but also straining resources if not managed carefully. She stressed the need for significant investments in education, including facilities, teacher recruitment, and training, to accommodate the increasing number of students.

“Collecting and analyzing inclusive data on school attendance, dropout rates, and academic performance helps identify barriers and develop targeted interventions. This data-driven approach ensures policies are grounded in reality and address community needs,” she added.

Commissioner of Budget, Economic Planning, and Multilateral Coordination, Aminu Hammayo, commended UNFPA for supporting the state government. Represented by Usman Mohammed, Director of Donor Coordination, he emphasized ongoing efforts to collect accurate data, especially on women, to improve planning and policy implementation.
