Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has commenced discussions with the University of Lagos (UNILAG) to develop a phased repayment plan addressing the university’s significant unpaid electricity bills, which exceed ₦1 billion.
This effort aims to find a feasible solution that aligns with UNILAG’s financial capabilities, following a recent ₦180 million payment that only partially addressed the outstanding debt.
The company has emphasized its commitment to resolving the issue through these discussions, highlighting that such a plan would accommodate the university’s budgetary constraints while ensuring continued reliable power supply. EKEDC is dedicated to maintaining a collaborative approach to address the financial concerns and restore power under mutually agreeable terms.
In parallel, EKEDC stresses that timely settlement of bills is crucial for sustaining electricity services and meeting its financial obligations. The phased repayment plan represents a significant step in addressing the debt issue while preserving the relationship between the power company and the university.
