Ogun Funmilayo Theresa, former State Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, has criticized Governor Biodun Oyebanji for what she calls a deceptive free education policy.

In a statement issued by her Special Adviser on Media, Oladimeji Atenibiaje, Funmi Ogun claimed that primary and secondary schools in Ekiti are still charging high fees, contrary to the governor’s promise of free education. She highlighted the recent increase in boarding fees to N90,000 and facility fees to N10,000 as evidence of the policy’s failure.

Funmi Ogun denounced the fee hike as insensitive given the current economic hardship in Nigeria, arguing that secondary school fees should not exceed those of federal universities. She called on Governor Oyebanji to be transparent and genuine about the implementation of his free education policy, criticizing the government’s public claims as misleading.

Looking ahead to the 2026 governorship election, Funmi Ogun noted that the PDP is focusing on reconciliation and mobilization efforts. She mentioned that a caretaker committee has been established to strengthen the party and prepare it for future electoral success, with a focus on rebuilding and unifying its structure.
