In an effort to improve educational quality in Kaduna State, Universal Learning Solutions (ULS) has trained 400 teachers on the effective use of its innovative digital teaching device, the Jolly Player.
During the training session held in Kaduna, Abbas Muhammad, ULS Technical Education Specialist, explained that the Jolly Player contains all 43 Jolly Phonics letter sound lessons and storybooks, making learning both fun and engaging for pupils. He emphasized that ULS is committed to enhancing teachers’ abilities to not only teach reading and writing but also develop comprehension, listening skills, and vocabulary. This holistic approach is a key reason for integrating the Jolly Player into their training programs.
Raheenatu Jumare, ULS’s Jolly Phonics Project Coordinator in Kaduna, highlighted the device’s potential to revolutionize the teaching landscape by making education more enjoyable and inclusive. She pointed out that as the world becomes increasingly digital, it’s essential for pupils to adapt to these changes. The training involved teachers from all 23 local government areas in the state, organized into three zones, with additional sessions planned to accommodate all regions.
Trainee Patience Kaciro, a teacher at LGEA Primary School in Chukun LGA, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, stating that it would enhance their teaching capabilities and make lessons more engaging. She noted the Jolly Player’s ability to capture pupils’ attention with its interactive and entertaining content, particularly in teaching grammar. The device, which can be powered by solar, electric, or a manual rotator, represents a significant step forward in bridging the technology gap in education.
