The Federal Government, through the Nigeria Police Force, has inaugurated the School Protection Squad in Ekiti State to enhance security in schools. The initiative follows past incidents of student abductions and aims to strengthen community involvement in safeguarding education.

Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo, speaking at the stakeholders’ forum in Ado-Ekiti, emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to the Safe School international initiative, with a mid-term plan to extend protection across all 36 states by 2026.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji, represented by Brig. Ebenezer Ogundana (rtd), reiterated the state’s dedication to ensuring the safety of its citizens, highlighting the collaboration between security agencies.

In a related development, the Babatope Memorial High School Old Students Association called on the state government to address examination malpractices in WAEC and NECO. The association also urged Governor Oyebanji to upgrade the school’s infrastructure for the benefit of future students.
