The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI), Prof. Kayode Adebowale, has reached out to security chiefs in Oyo State to reinforce security measures at the university amidst Nigeria’s growing security challenges.

Leading a delegation from UI, Prof. Adebowale met with the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Mechanised Division, the Commissioner of Police, and the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) to foster a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing safety within the university community.

During the meetings, Prof. Adebowale emphasized the importance of a multi-dimensional approach to security, particularly concerning youth-related issues. He highlighted the need for close collaboration between academia and security forces to address these challenges effectively.

General O.G. Onubogu, GOC of the 2 Mechanised Division, commended the VC for initiating the dialogue, while Commissioner of Police Ayodele Sonubi affirmed the ongoing synergy between UI and the police, noting UI’s role in supporting police personnel’s academic pursuits.

Director of DSS, Mr. Rasheed Adelakun, assured the university of continued support, including heightened security operations on campus to uphold safety. Prof. Adebowale was joined by top UI officials, underscoring a shared commitment to fostering a secure and conducive environment for learning through collaborative efforts with state security agencies.
