Azura Power West Africa is set to unveil a 240-kilowatt solar car park installation at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) on Tuesday, the company announced in a statement on Sunday. The official ceremony will be led by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, as part of a broader initiative supporting Nigeria’s energy transition goals and President Bola Tinubu’s recent power sector reforms.

According to Murtala Bello, Head of Corporate Affairs at Azura Power, the solar car park installation is part of the company’s “Power to Change” program. This initiative underscores Azura Power’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainable development in Nigeria. “The solar car park is not merely an addition to the university’s facilities; it represents a significant step toward achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,” Bello noted, emphasizing the project’s alignment with both educational and social advancements through renewable energy.

The new installation will benefit approximately 2,650 engineering students at UNN, covering around 75 percent of the energy requirements for the university’s engineering faculty. Expected to generate over 400,000 kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually, the project will ensure a more reliable power supply, enhancing the learning environment for students and faculty alike.

Additionally, Azura Power highlights that the installation will help the university save an estimated N150 million annually in energy costs. By supporting Nigeria’s net-zero targets, Azura Power hopes the solar car park will stand as a model for sustainable infrastructure within the country, contributing to both educational and environmental goals.
