Police recruits from Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa States have commenced training at the Police Training School in Odukpani, Cross River State.

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) for Zone 6, Jonathan Towuru, visited the school and received a briefing from Commandant ACP Gambo Erena on the 15-week training program. The recruits are undergoing instruction in drills, legal studies, liberal studies, and modern policing techniques.

AIG Towuru congratulated the recruits on their admission and urged them to approach the rigorous training with commitment. He noted that the program reflects Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun’s focus on reforming the Nigeria Police Force for better service delivery.

He stressed the importance of discipline and regular supervision to ensure a professional and accountable police force aligned with global standards. Towuru also highlighted the need for officers to adapt to evolving societal and criminal challenges, urging recruits to respect human rights as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the Police Act 2020.

The training staff were advised to prioritize frequent health checks for recruits to maintain their physical and mental fitness throughout the program.

The AIG’s visit coincided with that of Rabiu Nahala, Assistant Director of Administration for the Police Trust Fund (PTF), who conducted an assessment of the school’s facilities to identify areas for improvement.

Zone 6 PRO, Nelson Okpabi, emphasized that the training aims to prepare recruits for modern policing while fostering discipline and accountability in line with constitutional mandates.
