Children in Gombe State have urged stakeholders, including the government and parents, to ensure education for all children as a solution to the rising cases of child hawking and begging.

During an advocacy visit to the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Asma’u Iganus, marking the 2024 World Children’s Day, spokesperson Ramlat Kasimu Ahmed from Ilimi International School decried the plight of children denied education.

“Why will some parents not send their children to school? The almajiris are also Nigerian children and deserve education like me,” she said, highlighting the impact of neglect.

Commissioner Iganus reassured the children of the government’s commitment to providing free education and addressing these pressing challenges.

The visit was supported by UNICEF’s Bauchi Field Office, reinforcing the call for urgent action to protect children’s rights in Gombe State.
