The Registrar of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, has urged the federal government to establish a single agency to oversee the finances of public universities. He criticized the current practice of multiple agencies performing overlapping oversight roles, describing it as “retrogressive” and a source of inconsistencies. He noted that organizations such as the National Assembly, the Accountant General, the Auditor General, the National Universities Commission (NUC), and the Ministry of Education all conduct financial reviews, often leading to conflicting reports.

Alfanla suggested that a centralized body would streamline oversight functions and promote uniform policies, preventing the duplication of duties and divergent findings. He further highlighted the chronic underfunding of public institutions as a significant challenge, expressing hope for improvements in the future.

Additionally, he raised concerns about security at UNILORIN, citing instances of cattle herders encroaching on campus, destroying crops, and damaging farmlands. He emphasized the need for urgent action to protect university resources and ensure a conducive learning environment.
