In a decisive move to reposition technical education in Enugu State, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has approved the release of ₦30 million for the upskilling of 1,000 teachers under the state’s Science, Technical and Vocational Schools Management Board (STVSMB).
The capacity-building workshop, set for August 2025, will take place at the Enugu State College of Education (Technical), ESCET, and forms part of the state’s flagship “Train-the-Trainers” initiative. The programme aims to modernize teaching approaches and equip educators with advanced skills in pedagogy, technical instruction, and digital innovation.
The announcement was made by the Executive Chairman of STVSMB, Dr. Amaka Ngene, during an emergency management meeting attended by all Heads of Departments and Directors of the board.
“This training is a game-changer,” Dr. Ngene declared. “Our goal is to ensure that the teachers shaping the minds and skills of tomorrow’s workforce are equipped with the latest methods, tools, and innovations. All departments must finalize preparations immediately to kick off without delay.”
Key areas to be covered in the workshop include:
- Technical pedagogy and hands-on instruction
- STEM and TVET curriculum modernization
- Digital literacy and smart classroom tools
- Innovation in skills development
- Safety protocols and workshop management
The Train-the-Trainers model will produce a core group of Master Teachers who will then cascade their knowledge across hundreds of science and technical colleges in the state.
This initiative is the latest in a series of reforms championed by the Mbah administration under its “Disruptive Education Agenda,” which already includes the rollout of Smart Green Schools, professional teacher categorization, unified education data systems, and widespread digital literacy for educators and learners alike.
“This is not just training; it is a statewide strategy to make our vocational education system globally competitive,” Dr. Ngene emphasized, while commending Governor Mbah’s consistent investment in human capital development.
All STVSMB departments have been directed to complete logistics and participant coordination without delay. Further details on training schedules and facilitators will be made available by the board in the coming days.
