Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has approved ₦60 million for the accreditation of eight academic programmes at the College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega, as part of efforts to strengthen tertiary education and promote quality learning across the state. The approval was announced by the Provost of the College, Alhaji Hussaini Aliyu, during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.

Aliyu said the gesture demonstrated the governor’s commitment to revitalising higher education and improving standards in professional health training. He explained that the funds would facilitate the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) accreditation exercise currently underway, noting that the process was in its final stages. “Consequently, students affected by the suspension of academic activities on Oct. 17, 2024, will soon be recalled once the accreditation process is concluded. This will enable them to continue their studies and graduate with National Diploma (ND) qualifications,” he added.

The provost also disclosed that the governor had approved the renovation of students’ hostels and other essential facilities as part of the accreditation requirements, aimed at improving the teaching, learning, and research environment. He said the management, in collaboration with the Governing Council and the Ministry for Higher Education, was committed to ensuring the governor’s educational reform agenda was fully realised.

“We deeply appreciate His Excellency’s continued support and commitment to repositioning the college as a centre of excellence in health education and technology,” Aliyu said. He reaffirmed the institution’s readiness to sustain high standards in academic delivery and professional training in the health sector, stressing that the accreditation would further enhance the college’s credibility and capacity to produce skilled healthcare professionals.
