Osun govt suspends rector

Osun State Government has suspended the Rector of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Dr Tajudeen Odetayo, over alleged financial recklessness and abuse of office.
The suspension of Odetayo, who was appointed Rector in March this year was contained in a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary of, the Ministry of Education, Mr A Jimoh.

Research can solve food challenges, says don

A doctoral degree holder in Animal Breeding and Genetics from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Olaiwola Ogunpaimo, has called on the government to collaborate with specialised tertiary institutions, make use of research and technology to tackle food challenges in the country.

Speaking on the declaration of a state of emergency by the Nigerian president on food security, food pricing, and sustainability a few days ago, Ogunpaimo who is now based in Europe advised the government to include training, research, and the use of technology as part of the strategies if the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wished to achieve the best results within a short period.

Group donates books to foundation

The University of Cambridge and Innmedics Global Pharm Limited of India have donated 200,000 text and workbooks worth N250m and medical consumables worth over N8m to the PhilipAnna Foundation of Nigeria.

A statement by PhilipAnna Foundation said that the donations were made in honour of Dame Anna Kolawole, who was described as a visionary leader who used her leadership skills to drive development in the communities where she lived and worked during her lifetime.

Court validates CONUA, NAMDA as trade unions, dismisses ASUU’s suit

The National Industrial Court (NIC), Abuja has validated the Congress Of University Academics (CONUA) and the Nigeria Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) as trade unions.
The NIC president, Justice Benedict Kanyip, in doing so dismissed a suit filed by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), challenging the registration of CONUA and NAMDA as trade unions by the Federal Government (FG).

The National Industrial Court (NIC) has dismissed a suit filed by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), challenging the registration of the Congress Of University Academics (CONUA) and the Nigeria Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) as trade unions by the Federal Government.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Justice Benedict Kanyip, on Tuesday, declared that Section 27 of the Trade Union Act allows for more than one trade union in employment.
