Change education funding model, Gani Adams urges FG
THE Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams, urged the Federal Government to introduce a sustainable model for funding tertiary education in the country, saying the present approach could only draw the education sector backwards.
Speaking at the 2022 edition of Egbe Festival held in Ibeju-Lekki Lagos, Iba Adams berated the Federal Government over the prolonged Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, strike, insisting that the eight months of industrial action embarked upon by the university lecturers had crippled the education sector with the future of the Nigerian youth hanging in the balance.

Oshin raises alarm over Nigeria’s falling standard of education

Rivers local govt chairman’s wife tasks young girls on skills, education
The wife of the chairman of Andoni Local Government Area in Rivers State, Prof Beatrice Awortu, has said that adequate career guidance and skills development are crucial to the emancipation of the girl child.

People are moving to private universities due to fall in standard of education, Alabi laments
The Chief Executive Officer, Ecobank Pan African Centre, Dele Alabi, has lamented over the rate at which people are moving to private universities saying that the standard of education has fallen in public universities.
Alabi who is the chairman of the 16th Award & Recognition of the Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State, on Tuesday, advised the government at the federal and state levels to come together and lift the standard of education back to its usual position.

Sixth-form teachers in England to vote on strike action over pay
Teachers in sixth-form colleges in England are the latest workers to be balloted over strike action in pursuit of an above-inflation pay rise.
The National Education Union (NEU), which represents the majority of teachers in the sixth-form college sector, said members had voted overwhelmingly in an indicative ballot for a pay rise to exceed RPI, which was 11.7% at the time of the original claim.

Children’s commissioner demands ambition, not ‘tinkering’, in childcare reform
The children’s commissioner for England has poured cold water on Liz Truss’s proposal to scrap regulations governing child-to-staff ratios in nurseries, describing it as tinkering around the edges and calling instead for ambitious and transformative reform of the childcare sector.
In an interview with the Guardian, Dame Rachel de Souza said children’s safety and wellbeing must be “paramount” in any plans to reform childcare and she said she thought it was “really depressing” if the current conversation about childcare focused purely on ratios.
