Nigerian primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions may soon have new curricula following a House of Representatives resolution on Thursday.

The motion, titled “Review of the Nigerian curriculum for primary and secondary schools in line with current global market needs and contemporary realities,” was moved by Hon. Bamidele Salam (PDP-Osun).

Salam argued that the current curriculum prioritizes rote learning over critical skills like problem-solving and critical thinking, which are essential in today’s labor market.

He emphasized the need for practical training, real-world scenarios, and technological integration to better prepare students for the job market.

The House urged the Federal Ministry of Education to conduct a comprehensive curriculum review, emphasizing skills like critical thinking, digital literacy, and adaptability.

The motion was referred to the House Committees on Basic Education and Services and University Education for compliance.
