The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the results of the 2024 internal Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE), revealing that 828,284 candidates, or 60.55%, scored five credits including English language and Mathematics.

The Registrar and CEO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, made the announcement at the Council Headquarters in Minna, Niger State, where he noted that a total of 1,376,423 students registered for the examination, with 1,367,736 actually sitting for it.

In his remarks, Wushishi highlighted that 1,147,597 candidates achieved five credits or more regardless of the English and Mathematics requirement, accounting for 83.90% of the total candidates. He also reported a significant decrease in examination malpractice, with only 8,437 cases recorded this year, down from 12,030 in 2023. The states of Abia, Imo, and Ebonyi emerged as the top performers, while Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Borno, and Zamfara had the lowest results.

The registrar further disclosed that 40 schools across 17 states were implicated in mass cheating, with plans to hold discussions before applying sanctions. One school in Ekiti State has been recommended for de-recognition due to severe malpractice in core subjects. Additionally, 21 supervisors in 12 states face blacklisting for various offenses, including poor supervision and aiding malpractice.
