The University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, UMTH, has suffered significant water damage due to the catastrophic flooding in Borno State, prompting a two-week suspension of operations.

The flooding, triggered by the collapse of the Alau Dam, has wreaked havoc across Maiduguri, affecting vital infrastructure and displacing over 400,000 residents.

Chief Medical Director Ahmad Ahidjo reported that while some hospital services are set to resume, the extent of the damage to medical equipment remains uncertain. The facility urgently requires support to restore its operations to optimal capacity and ensure that patients receive the care they need.

As the hospital works to recover, staff have also been involved in rescue efforts amid the flooding crisis, navigating the challenges posed by the disaster.
