The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Adeola Adeyemo, a 400-level teaching practice student from Tai Solarin University of Education, for allegedly causing an 11-year-old pupil, Alao Idera, to lose her right eye.

The incident occurred at Owiwi Nursery and Primary School, Obada Oko, where Adeyemo was undergoing her teaching practice.

Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed that the injury was accidental. The teacher, while holding a cane during preparations for an end-of-year party, accidentally injured the pupil as she rushed toward her. The pupil’s eye was surgically removed at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta. Odutola clarified that there was no flogging or misconduct by either party.

Following the tragic outcome, Adeyemo reportedly attempted suicide but was rushed to the hospital and is now stable. The police continue their investigation into the incident.
