The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, has insisted that the institution’s Bosso Campus is legally and permanently vested in the Federal Government, dismissing claims that it was leased from the Niger State Government. His clarification follows reports that Governor Umaru Bago issued a quit notice to reclaim the property, said to have originally been the Government Teachers’ College, Minna, before the university’s establishment in 1983.

Professor Kuta stated that records show a compensation payment of N2.8 million was made to the Niger State Government in 1983, confirming a permanent transfer of ownership rather than a lease arrangement. He added that the university also acquired adjoining lands from private individuals and organisations, including Dr. Michael O. Ikeh, Amajo Enterprises Nigeria Ltd, and the Roman Catholic Church, further strengthening its ownership claim.

The Vice Chancellor maintained that there is no evidence of any lease or temporary transfer agreement regarding the campus. Citing university council records, findings of a Federal Government Visitation Panel, and a directive from the National Universities Commission, he argued that property lawfully acquired by the Federal Government for public use cannot be reclaimed by a state authority without due constitutional process.
