The German government has announced a fully funded scholarship opportunity for Nigerians and other applicants from Sub-Saharan Africa, aimed at strengthening higher education and driving sustainable development across the region.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) disclosed the opportunity in a statement published on its website and social media platforms on Wednesday, outlining the objectives and eligibility criteria for prospective applicants.

According to DAAD, the scholarship programme is designed to foster strong, internationally oriented higher education systems in Sub-Saharan Africa, with the capacity to contribute meaningfully to development.

The statement explained that the scholarships will support development-related master’s studies for individuals who intend to pursue careers in teaching and research at higher education institutions within the region.

“Scholarships are granted for development-related master’s studies for individuals who plan to pursue a career in teaching and/or research at a higher education institution in Sub-Saharan Africa,” the statement read.

DAAD encouraged qualified candidates to apply, noting that female applicants and individuals from less privileged regions or groups would receive special consideration as part of efforts to promote inclusivity and equal access to academic opportunities.

The scholarship is strictly open to graduates and postgraduates from Sub-Saharan Africa who possess a first academic degree.

Applications for the programme will close on April 29, 2026, with interested candidates advised to complete their submissions before the deadline.
