The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State has reaffirmed its commitment to creating safer learning environments with the launch of a comprehensive Safe School training programme for its personnel.

Speaking at the opening of the three-day training in Kano, the State Commandant, Mohammed Agalama, emphasized that the initiative aligns with directives from the NSCDC Commandant General and the national policy focused on ensuring safety, security, and violence-free schools across the country. He noted that protecting educational institutions remains a top priority, particularly in the face of evolving security challenges.

Agalama highlighted the importance of equipping officers with practical knowledge and modern skills needed to effectively safeguard schools. According to him, the training is designed to strengthen the capacity of desk officers, enabling them to coordinate responses, monitor risks, and address safety concerns in schools throughout the state.

The programme, sponsored by Plan International in collaboration with Save the Children and funded by the European Union, reflects a strong partnership aimed at reinforcing child protection systems. Agalama commended the organizations for their support, describing the collaboration as a vital step toward securing the future of children through improved school safety measures.

Representatives of the partner organizations also encouraged participants to make the most of the training. Joseph Apeh, speaking on behalf of the partners, and Josiah Shu’aibu, a resource person from the Corps’ National Safe School Response Coordination Centre in Abuja, both urged attendees to actively engage and apply the knowledge gained to their respective duties.

The initiative marks a significant move toward enhancing institutional readiness and ensuring that schools across Kano State remain secure spaces for learning and development.
