A student who narrowly escaped the recent abduction attack on schools in Oyo State has recounted the terrifying moments armed attackers stormed her school during an examination, forcing pupils to flee for safety.

The student, identified as Aminat, shared her experience amid growing concern over the security situation in parts of the state following the abduction of pupils and teachers from schools in Oriire Local Government Area.

According to reports, the attack occurred while students were writing examinations.

“We were writing an exam when we heard gunshots. Everybody started running into the bush. Even our teacher ran away. Since then, we have not seen him,” Aminat reportedly said while narrating her ordeal. (ThisDay Live)

She explained that the sudden attack created panic among pupils, many of whom scattered in different directions in an attempt to escape. Amid the confusion, several students were reportedly separated from their families, while others were taken away by the attackers.

Aminat revealed that her family later discovered that her elder brother was among those missing after frantic efforts to locate him proved unsuccessful.

The incident has left many residents traumatised, with parents expressing fears over the safety of their children and the future of education in the affected communities.

One of the affected parents reportedly said the family has been unable to sleep peacefully since the abduction, adding that many children are now afraid to return to school. (ThisDay Live)

The attack, which affected schools in Ahoro-Esin-Ile, Yawota, and Alawusa communities, has sparked nationwide concern and renewed calls for stronger security measures around educational institutions.

In response, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) directed public school teachers in Oyo State to begin an indefinite strike until the abducted teachers and learners are safely released. (ThisDay Live)
