The Lagos State Government has announced June 29, 2026, as the commencement date for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), commonly referred to as Junior WAEC.
The announcement was made by education authorities in the state, who said preparations have been concluded to ensure a smooth and credible conduct of the examination across approved centres.
Officials explained that the examination timetable was set in line with the state’s academic calendar and coordinated with relevant stakeholders to avoid disruptions to school activities.
The government urged school administrators, parents and students to take note of the date and ensure adequate preparation ahead of the examination, noting that the BECE remains a key milestone in the academic progression of junior secondary school students.
Education authorities also assured that necessary measures have been put in place to maintain examination integrity, including monitoring teams and strict compliance with examination guidelines.
They further reiterated the state’s commitment to improving learning outcomes and strengthening the quality of basic education through consistent assessment and academic reforms.
Students were encouraged to remain focused on their studies, while teachers were advised to intensify revision sessions to ensure improved performance in the upcoming examination.
The BECE serves as a prerequisite for admission into senior secondary school in Lagos State and other parts of the country.
