The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has launched its long-awaited Digital Certificate Services System, known as WAEC DigiCert, in all its member countries — The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone.
The council made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday, describing the initiative as a major step toward improving access to and verification of certificates for candidates and institutions.
According to WAEC, the DigiCert platform is a mobile and web-based application developed to deliver wide-ranging benefits to stakeholders. The system allows users to access, request, confirm, and share digital versions of their original certificates conveniently and securely. It also provides a solution for candidates who have misplaced their WAEC examination numbers, enabling easy recovery through the platform.
WAEC assured users of the system’s reliability and security, stating that the authenticity of certificates obtained through DigiCert is fully guaranteed. The council added that the cost benefits and convenience offered by the platform are significant.
Following a successful pilot phase in Nigeria, WAEC disclosed that the DigiCert platform received positive feedback from candidates and educational institutions around the world.
The council urged the general public and relevant stakeholders to embrace the new digital service to reduce the administrative challenges and delays often associated with manual certificate processing and collection.
WAEC, however, emphasized that the introduction of DigiCert will not affect the traditional printing and issuance of physical certificates.
