Vice President Kashim Shettima has called for urgent and sustained investment in health and education across Northern Nigeria, warning that development gaps in the region cannot be bridged without stronger human capital interventions.
Shettima made the call during a stakeholder engagement, where he stressed that access to quality healthcare and education remains critical to improving living standards, reducing poverty and driving long-term economic growth.
He noted that many communities in the North continue to face challenges such as inadequate schools, shortage of teachers, weak healthcare infrastructure and limited access to essential services, calling for coordinated action by all levels of government and development partners.
According to him, investing in schools, training teachers, expanding healthcare facilities and strengthening social services will help unlock the region’s potential and create opportunities for young people.
The Vice President urged collaboration between government, private sector actors, traditional institutions and international partners to accelerate development efforts in underserved communities.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to policies aimed at improving education outcomes, strengthening healthcare delivery and expanding social investment programmes across the country.
Shettima maintained that addressing human capital deficits in the North is key to achieving national stability, prosperity and inclusive growth.
