Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, has announced that a revised school curriculum will be implemented in Nigeria starting October 2024.

Speaking to State House correspondents following a federal executive council meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu, Mamman emphasized that the new curriculum targets both primary and secondary schools. It aims to address ongoing concerns regarding the behavior and values of young Nigerians, with civic education becoming compulsory in secondary schools.

“There is a general concern about the behavior and conduct of our young ones in the country and our social values,” Mamman stated. He explained that the revised curriculum will incorporate knowledge, skills, and values, particularly focusing on equipping students with practical skills that connect to the economy, ensuring they are prepared for the job market upon graduation.

Additionally, the council approved a contract for constructing a new Senate building for the University of Ibadan, which will accommodate various administrative offices. Mamman also noted the council’s approval for the costs associated with conducting examinations by the National Examinations Council (NECO), following the recent release of exam results for millions of Nigerian students.
