The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted full accreditation to 23 academic programmes at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), following a comprehensive accreditation exercise conducted in October and November 2024.

In a statement issued by UNICAL’s Public Relations Unit, the approval was conveyed through an official memo addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, and signed by the NUC’s Acting Director of Accreditation, Engr. Abraham Chundusu, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu. The accreditation is seen as a significant academic milestone for the institution.

The newly accredited programmes include key courses such as Agriculture, Fisheries, and Aquaculture, alongside Medical Laboratory Science, English and Literary Studies, Philosophy, Christian Religious Studies, and Religious and Cultural Studies. The Faculty of Education also saw full accreditation for Adult Education, Education Agricultural Science, and Library and Information Science, while the Dentistry programme under the Faculty of Dentistry was also among those granted full accreditation. The development is expected to enhance academic credibility and boost student enrollment across the accredited departments.
