The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) announced on Monday its intention to engage in dialogue with the Federal Government regarding the recent increase in Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) prices before considering nationwide protests.

NANS Senate President, Akinteye Babatunde, emphasized the importance of constructive engagement and urged for the dismissal of non-performing ministers in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.

Babatunde also called for an increase in the student loan maintenance allowance from N20,000 to N40,000 to help students manage the rising cost of living. He stressed that while reforms are necessary, they should be implemented in phases to ease the burden on citizens.

In addition to seeking an adjustment in student allowances, NANS is forming a 10-man committee to address these issues directly with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NMDPRA, and the Federal Government, aiming to secure a reduction in fuel prices and propose practical solutions.
